Description
“1860 House”Enjoy a peaceful, refreshing experience in the recently renovated, historic “1860 House.” Located in the quaint village of Stonington Borough, the house features 2 fully equipped units and extraordinary views of Little Narragansett Bay and Fisher’s Island Sound. There’s also a private garden and amenities that will help you settle in and feel at home. Launch your canoe or kayak in the bay—it’s just down the street—or walk 5 minutes in the other direction to enjoy the charms of village life. The spaceQuiet, light-filled, and featuring hardwood floors throughout, the 1860 House has breathtaking views of Little Narragansett Bay and Fisher’s Island Sound and is a perfect place to rest, relax, and rejuvenate. Each of its two units is fully equipped and includes access to a large, enclosed private garden (with furniture for lounging and a gas grill). The apartment on the ground floor has a bedroom, living room, eat-in kitchen, bathroom with tub, and full-sized washer and dryer. The upstairs unit (floors 2 and 3) has two bedrooms, 1.5 baths, a kitchen, and washer and dryer. There’s also a work space that looks out over the water and two decks with the same sublime view.We love the house at every time of day—from watching the sun rise in the morning to star-gazing at night—and in every season. Each has its beauty. And its allures.Other things to noteSettled in the mid-17th century, Stonington’s rich history can be evidenced everywhere—including, for example, in its quaint residential streets, old town dock, Cannon Square, the nation’s first lighthouse museum, and precious homes such as ours, built in 1860.Throughout the Borough (as residents call the area), natural beauty abounds. Down the street from the house is an intimate beach where you can enjoy spectacular sunrises and launch your canoe, kayak or paddle board. Walk 5 minutes in the other direction and you’ll come to the larger DuBois Beach and tip-off the Stonington peninsula, with panoramic views of Fisher’s Island Sound. There’s also a salt-march meadow with a walking trail and a lovely view of Little Narragansett Bay. Also just minutes away by foot are adorable shops and eateries-the blueberry pancakes at Noah’s are the best we’ve tasted-and a short drive away are farm stands, lobster shacks and road side ice-cream shops (open seasonally), and the towns of Mystic and Watch Hill.
