Description
Constructed in 2008 and designed by famed Katrina Cottage architect Marianne Cusato, this classic, West Virginia cottage is located in Lost City/Lost River is sure to warm your heart. Brazilian cherry hardwood floors, marble and glass tile baths, 9 foot ceilings and comfortable furniture provide a casual, country/lodge atmosphere. The location provides breathtaking vistas of the mountains from every window, the 8 foot deep front porch which extends the entire house as well and a small covered back porch with even more great views. We recently added a large “treehouse deck” off the driveway for more outdoor space for dining, relaxing and has a large propane gas grill. This vacation home sits down a small driveway from a paved road and is surrounded by acres of nature. .Beyond that and within walking distance are the rest of the thousands of acres that make up the George Washington National Forest. The fenced in back yard is great for dog lovers! From Washingtonian Magazine – : ‘The Lost River Valley of West Virginia has been found.”Tucked between two mountain ridges, the valley, a couple of hours from Washington, is drawing more weekenders. The lure is rugged woodland scenery, tumbling mountain streams, and outdoor fun – hiking, fishing, biking, canoeing, swimming, rafting, climbing, horseback riding.’ In winter months you are only 40 minutes from Bryce Resort and a little over an hour from Canaan Valley resort!Three great bedrooms make the home perfect for families or couples – two rooms each with a queen bed and a third room with two twin beds. One queen bedroom is downstairs with its own bath and canopy bed (master suite). All bed linens and towels are provided. There are two full baths, one upstairs and one down. The baths have heated marble floors, glass tile walls and high-end fixtures. Soak in the upstairs bath’s jetted tub with a window that overlooks the mountains and catch a glimpse of the deer and wild turkeys. The cottage has both central air and heat which is dual zone for those who like to sleep with it cool but wake up to a warm downstairs. There is a fully-equipped kitchen with microwave, dishwasher, toaster, coffeemaker, etc.. There is a washer and dryer combo upstairs if you need it.Newly installed: fiber for internet- super fast, Apple TV for Netflix/Hulu and Verizon repeater so you can use your VZ wireless cell phone out there!Note: This house has been rented for the past 7 years by the previous owner Mark. We couldn’t transfer his listing to us unfortunately so we lost all the wonderful reviews. Here were some of the more recent reviews:Everything we hoped for….every thing we needed!5 of 5This was our families first time renting through VRBO and it was a great experience. The house was perfect for our needs and as described. One daughter joined us in the beginning of the week, and our other daughter and family with two young children joined us later in the week. We had wonderful family meals, and loads of fun setting on the porch, gathering eggs, watching the stars at night. Played in the creek down the road, went to trout pond twice, climbed up to the observation towere at Sceneca Rocks and are planning to take a short hike at Lost River SP before we leave, today. The Lost River Grill is a great place to eat and we enjoyed the Museum and local Arts Coop. The Walmart in Morfield is about 22 miles away and an easy drive. The only downside of our trip is seeing that the cottage is under contract.Submitted: Aug 29, 2015Stayed: Aug 2015Source: VRBO, from HomeAwayTim S.Great Hideaway for Our Young Family5 of 5While there were a few quirks to the property our stay was very pleasant. Most things were as described and the setting was perfect as we could have hoped. The beds were comfy and the central air was a blessing on the warm afternoons. We have 3 kids, 5 and under and they loved it. We walked in the creek down the road, got eggs in the morning, had lots of time roving around the house and yard. If it’s still a rental next summer, it will be at the top of our list.Submitted: Aug 12, 2015Stayed: Jul 2015Source: HomeAwayThe Mountainside Farmhouse was what we needed5 of 5The Mountainside Farmhouse was exactly as described and met all of our expectations. We were looking for somewhere to spend a quiet week, with the whole family (including dogs), that was off the grid, with plenty of outdoor adventures. The farmhouse is quaint, well taken care of, comfortable and quiet. The beds are super comfy and the design of the house is perfect for late night conversations indoors or on the front porch. While in Lost River we ventured on many great hikes, swam and fished at Trout Lake, went horseback riding, visited the Farmers Market, had several nice dinners in town. We also took a drive to Washington DC for a day trip .The Lost River area is beautiful, but if you’re a city dweller please be aware that you will experience nature and it’s elements. We saw ample wildlife including deer, turtles and snakes. Also, if visiting in July be sure to treat your dogs for ticks and check yourself after each outdoor adventure as there are plenty of ticks. Please don’t let that scare you away!Lastly, and most significant for us was how exceptional Phil was as a host Phil accomplished the very challenging task of balancing being available and helpful but also distant.Overall, simply put, a super place to visit.Submitted: Aug 6, 2015Stayed: Jul 2015Source: HomeAway
