It was built as the waterfront vacation home of Governor Bates, who was the governor of Massachusetts at the turn of the 20th century.On the huge lawn, you can have a friendly game of football or croquet (in the spirit of the era of the house), or sit in the shade on one of the screened or open porches and watch the river flow by. There are several peaceful spots around the property for guests to enjoy the lively boat activity on the river and take in the breathtaking sunsets.
