Description
This luxurious oceanfront home has stunning views of the widest beach in north end of Virginia Beach. In a quiet residential neighborhood, this property feels like a private retreat from the moment you round the corner of the driveway—truly a place to get away from it all!3,000 square feet on four levels plus two patios, a rooftop deck, extensive gardens, a playground, and a grove of live oaks give ample space for individuals in a large group to have moments of quiet retreat, making this home ideal for family gatherings.Inspired in 1953 by the Norfolk residency of Frank Lloyd Wright, this family property was designed by local architect, Herbert Smith, and built in 1955. The home is registered on the Virginia Beach Historic Register and is applying to be included in the State and National Historic Registers. There are still many pieces of the original 1955 furniture while the mid-century aesthetic was retained when updating in 2006. The owners—the daughter and grandson of the original owners—continue to uphold the tradition of southern hospitality.A fully furnished rooftop deck has what is often described as “the best view in Virginia Beach.” The dolphin watching boats often travel all the way up to the waters of the North End to view our favorite mammals, but you can watch them at any time from the comfort of the dining room or rooftop deck. Cook on the deck with the grill or prepare more complex meals in the kitchen and send food up to the deck in the dumb waiter so you can enjoy a perfect view of sunrises, sunsets, and full moons while you eat.’Sandswept’ is a split level mid-century home with four floors dedicated to our guests plus a ground floor hosting common areas such as the laundry facilities that are occupied and used by the owner. The four upper levels provide large- and medium-sized groups with numerous opportunities for privacy, as the bedrooms are spread out. The many steps, however, make this inaccessible for the handicapped and uncomfortable for those with mobility issues. The Pelican room on the top floor and its rooftop deck can only be accessed via a spiral staircase. Both full bathrooms provide spa like experiences, with tubs that provide aeromassage, dynamic turbo massage, and chromatherapy. Dimmers in the bathrooms and throughout the house let you create mood lighting whenever and wherever you want. Toilets are located in “water closets” separated from the cleansing shower and tub area, which allows bathers to relax undisturbed. Two spacious exterior showers with hot and cold water helps your group easily clean off the sand after the beach. A beach cart makes it easy to carry small children and their toys, umbrellas, chairs, and snacks to the beach. Dogs are allowed on the beach before 10:00 a.m. and after 6:00 p.m. in the summer and anytime the rest of the year. Surfing is allowed before 10:00 a.m. and after 4:00 p.m. in the summer. The grounds offer numerous places to enjoy the outside: a swingset for the kids, two patios, one on the east side and one on the west, a pond with a relaxing fountain, and a certified Backyard Wildlife Habitat with a garden full of flowers and bushes that attract and feed birds, butterflies, and hummingbirds. There are four to six parking places depending on size of vehicles—an unusual luxury in this part of Virginia Beach. This home is tucked away in the middle of the block in a quiet residential neighborhood, off a cul de sac which has no thru traffic. Residents on our street generally live here year-round. Sandswept provides a perfect respite for families. However, it is not suitable for noisy gatherings of unrelated adults.Listed with Virginia Green Travel as an exemplary green vacation rental, this “green” home was fully renovated in 2006 to comply with Energy Star and LEED ReGreen standards. With top-of-the-line Energy Star appliances, excellent windows and insulation that provide greater indoor comfort, and no VOCs in the finishes, this is the perfect home for anyone with chronic allergies or asthma. Virginia Green Travel awarded Sandswept a Star Award “Green Vacation Rental of 2017 and 2018.” Sandswept also provides a high-speed EV charger for guests with electric vehicles.Sandswept is also located near a variety of amenities. The entrance to walking paths in First Landing State Park is located two blocks away. The Resort with all its activities is 3 miles away—an easy bike ride along the access road. The Virginia Aquarium, Auto World Bumper Cars and Ocean Breeze Water Park are 6 miles away. Busch Gardens, Water Country and historic Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown are an hour away—ideal day trips. There are two TVs with Firesticks plus a DVD player and whole house audio. High speed Orbi WiFi is provided. A solar and wind powered clothes dryer Imbues your clothes with the fresh smell of the sea air. Port-a-crib, highchair, booster chair, infant seat for outdoor swingset, and diaper pail are available for toddlers; please request in advance. No smoking is allowed inside or within 50 feet of an open window. Guests are asked to leave outside shoes at the door as this is the single most important way to protect indoor air quality. Dogs are permitted on a case-by-case basis, with an extra pet fee per dog. A shaded, fenced dog yard can be shared with owner’s dogs. The owners reside within the property whenever it’s rented and share common elements including the laundry facilities with our guests. We offer round-the-clock assistance when needed but otherwise respect our guests’ privacy. Our guests often note their appreciation for our sharing this unique family home. Keywords: Oceanfront, Private, Quiet, exclusive Northend Virginia Beach, Award winning Green Vacation Rental, awesome views, Perfect for Family Vacations, quiet beach retreat, good for those with asthma or allergies
