Baker’s Cottage – Relax in this quiet mountain cottage by the creek.Whether you are looking for a couples’ get-a-way or a place for the family to stay, Baker’s Cottage is the perfect place to kick back and take a break from the hustle and bustle of life. We have a covered front porch for you to sit and relax while you enjoy your morning coffee. The sunroom and back deck offer a nice view of the spacious backyard and where you can listen to the peaceful sounds from the babbling creek. The backyard and creek are a great place to take a stroll, play games, cool off in the water, catch fireflies, or roast marshmallows while gathered around the fire. A gazebo overlooks the creek and cottage offering a place to play games or just sit and relax. The cottage is just a short 2 minute walk from the New River and only a 15 minute drive to the town of West Jefferson where you can find food, shopping, Mt. Jefferson State Park, and Ashe County Cheese. Various river outfitters are close by (10-15 minutes away) where you can rent tubes, canoes, or kayaks. Looking for a day trip during your stay: Grayson Highlands Park, Virginia Creeper Trail, Appalachian State University, Stone Mountain State Park, Tweetsie Railroad, and various ski resorts are all less than an hour away.The original portion of Baker’s Cottage was built in 1935. It has unique characteristics that make it a one of a kind. Most of the ceilings in the house are low, between 6’10” and 7′ high. Taller individuals may need to duck when walking through doorways.
