Description
Lake Abanakee Camp is more like Lake Abanakee Home than a camp, with brick fireplace, hardwood and nice quarry tile look vinyl flooring, natural wood cabinets and walls, birchbark themed kitchen wallpaper (nice kitchen), and lots of Adirondack touches from rug to artwork to lamp/end table. The ‘screened porch’ is actually a room off the kitchen with 2 windows that have screens when opened. There is a nice view of the lake across a quiet neighborhood road from all 3 of those rooms. The small wading beach is not ideal for swimming (kids will like it) because the water is shallow at this spot but there is a dock for boating. You will spend many pleasant hours and meals sitting in the chairs by the water. You might see the doe and fawn along the shore to our right as well as at different times duck and 8 tiny ducklings, 6 geese, and loons can be heard throughout.. An active osprey nest is atop a pole in the middle of the causeway. The double lot with the lawned sideyard on one side of the house provides privacy, and the neighbor on the other side never uses their dock or waterfront next to ours, so it gives you more of a feeling of having this section of the lakefront to ourselves. Friendly community (people wave); quiet at night. You might want to climb up Chimney Mt to a fine view from some of the rock formations at the top or kayak/fish on the lake. There is a nice small swimming beach, convenience store, and a few eateries a couple miles away in the town and more trailheads along the road to beautiful Blue Mt Lake with state owned islands, just one of many paddling experiences nearby in addition to miles of exploration in Lake Abanakee itself. Approximately 4 miles long and ½ mile wide, Lake Abanakee winds around islands with nesting osprey and eagles. Both large and small mouth Bass are abundant, as are the more elusive Northern Pike. The plentiful pan-fish population will keep the beginning fisherman interested, while the experienced hand can attempt a larger catch, including Muskie and Walleye. Lake Abanakee is exceptionally quiet. Rare is the loud motor boat, though trolling motors are welcome. Paddle enthusiasts will find hours of leisurely touring. Or, travel up the Indian River and over a wooded portage to experience Indian Lake. NOTE: this is a cabin in the woods, there will be wildlife, maybe a mouse, maybe a moose, one never knows. This rental includes the use of two kayaks and row boat at your own risk..Lake Abanakee Home has a lot going for it! Check in is 2pm, check out is 10am.
