Description

Built circa 1872, Abendruh Cottage is a quintessential, historic Bar Harbor summer home, and one of Bar Harbor’s first summer cottages. This charming home is located on a Albert Meadow just a stone’s throw from the beautiful Shore Path and Frenchman’s Bay, and is a block from the Village Green and bustling downtown Bar Harbor. The property features a luxurious wrap around porch with an expansive lawn (perfect for croquet and badminton), large stone terrace with an iron fire pit, fully updated chef’s kitchen, lovely gardens and an outdoor shower. As the owners’ family summer home for three generations, it holds history, memories, and beautiful original furnishings from days gone by. There are hardwood floors throughout, lovely antiques, unique windows, four access entries, and plenty of outdoor seating for relaxing and dining. The first floor of this airy, spacious cottage features a living room, a sitting room with gas fireplace, a study (with a sleep futon), a glorious formal dining room (seats 10), a large, modern chef’s kitchen, kitchen table area with a farm table and gas fireplace, separate laundry room, and a 1/2 bathroom. There is also a lovely deck right off the kitchen, where the gas grill is located. The second floor features a huge master king bedroom (with a twin daybed as well) and full bathroom (with small claw-foot tub and walk-in tiled shower). A large hall connects the queen bedroom, two single bedrooms, and another full bath with a long, old-fashioned bathtub. The back hallway leads to a bedroom with twin beds, another with a double bed, large back bathroom, (with tub and shower), and back stairs leading down to the laundry room/kitchen.Amenities include internet TV (in study), DVD player, WIFI, dishwasher, washer/dryer, outdoor shower, two gas fireplaces, gas BBQ, and parking for up to 5 cars.Experience the summer cottage life… take a walk down the iconic and historic Shore Path each morning, sit on a bench in Grant’s Park, breathe in the salt air and take in the extraordinary view. Try to climb Balance Rock, the way summer visitors have been doing for over 100 years. Cook a lobster dinner and eat it outdoors on the porch. Amble up to Main Street and the Village Green to go shopping or get ice cream and choose from myriad wonderful restaurants for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Go out and explore the best of Mt. Desert Island and Acadia National Park, including hiking, biking, boating, whale watching, canoeing (kayak and canoe tours), lake swimming, carriage road walks, horse back riding, wonderful dining, shopping, deep sea fishing…Visit the Oceanarium, sail on the Margaret Todd, take a Jackson Lab visitors tour, enjoy tea and popovers at the Jordan Pond House, or golf at a PGA top-rated course. But most of all, take time to relax on Abendruh’s front porch with morning coffee or evening glass of wine and a good book, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
