Description
“Craigh na Dun” timber frame cabin, Blue Ridge Views for outlanders to loveCan not make it to Scotland? Well, experience it in the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains. A truly unique early American/Highland themed custom built small timber frame cabin, 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, Queen and King size beds, a single loft day bed, Gas fireplace, hot tub, top of the mountain views of Grandfather Mountain and its surrounding ridges. An experience of living in the 18th Century is created by utilizing poplar bark siding, slate roofing, “knock down” finishes to walls, hardwood and tile flooring, a two story stone fireplace, 200+ year old mortise and tenon beams, stone showers, wrought iron accents in stairs and lighting, antique Jacobean style furnishings, electric candle lighting fixtures; all the while blending in modern features such as WiFi, hot tub, streaming television, etc. This timber frame home features a blend of post & beam and timber truss system construction that allows for a soaring 26 foot three story living room ceiling. Wood is the prominent feature of the timber frame and you can not take your eyes off of the intricacies of the detail.Looking out across the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains, you see the western ridges surrounding Blowing Rock and Grandfather Mountain. Sip a cool beverage in the hot tub and watch the sun setting behind these majestic peaks. Or, sit by the fire and watch your favorite television, “Outlander” on Starz? Stroll through the standing stones buried in a circle in the forest just off the deck. Hike some of the 75 miles of horse trails found within the gated 5000 acres of Leatherwood Mountains. Take a guided trail ride on the back of a horse, rent a tube at the Welcome Center and relax on Elk Creek, fish in the mountain streams of the Leatherwood pond, enjoy the community pool, tennis courts, or restaurant and bar. Or, do nothing at listen for our resident whippoorwill. Relax and dream of your forefathers living in the wilderness in a new land. When you look out of the windows after the sun sets, you will see no other lights, no other people for miles and you and your loved one as it was at the beginning of America in western Carolina. And, we have a Standing Stone circle in our forest! The author of “Outlander” placed Fraser’s Ridge within about 10-15 miles of Leatherwood Mountains. The 10,000 acre land grant is impossible in the 21st century, but you can experience it in Leatherwood’s 5000 acres of wilderness gated subdivision. Deer, wild turkey, bears, wolves, mountain lions… the NC Blue Ridge still has these large American iconic animals and Leatherwood is a sanctuary for wildlife. Take a trail ride and witness wilderness first hand.Visit VRBOto see our other Leatherwood Mountain cabins. Hemlock Point cabin is an authentic Appalachian log cabin and sleeps 5 in two bedrooms and a loft (and is dog and handicapped friendly) VRBO #337266, and Rollin’ N the Hay cabin is a gambrel barnaminium (with a game area below where the stalls used to be) and sleeps 4 in two bedrooms (and is dog friendly) #337182.
