Description

Enjoy spectacular Lake Michigan views from this comfortable and spacious home overlooking what we affectionately call the “Big Lake.” This vacation rental is in a naturally beautiful vacation destination where there are unlimited activities available to you depending on your interests, including swimming, walking the beach, going for long scenic drives in the car or on your motorcycle, golfing at one of the many local golf courses, enjoying the rides and waterpark (summer) at Michigan’s Adventure theme park nearby, kayaking or canoeing clear and cool White River, fishing off the pier at White Lake channel nearby or visiting the White Lake Lighthouse there, and so on!*** BRAND NEW QUEEN BEDS THIS YEAR, 2024 ***Please note that summer rentals are offered by the week only, and run Saturday through Saturday each week starting June 1.During the Spring, Fall and Winter seasons we offer more flexibility and nightly stays. Our 4 bedroom beach home is located in what is known as the critical dunes in West Michigan, and this A-frame style house sits up high in the sand surrounded by beach grass. The house sits high enough on the dune that it has clear views of the horizon on Lake Michigan for magnificent sunsets. There is a brief walk a couple of houses down this very quiet, safe and private road to our expansive, shared, sandy Lake Michigan beach. Walk the beach for many miles! The water levels in Lake Michigan rose significantly in 2020 but are receding again now in 2021. As a result, our shared beach has been impacted because the beach stairs nearest us have been removed. Our vacation rental is not impacted by this because we walk down to a beautiful beach which is accessed by a sandy dune trail over open and spacious sand dunes, with 2 steps down onto a very large sandy swimming beach. This is easily accessible by all ages, assuming one can traverse through sand. You wouldn’t notice here that anything has changed for the lakeshore. See our photos. If you walk the beach farther south, you will notice the impact of Lake Michigan on our neighbors, but otherwise, you wouldn’t see it. We are very thankful to be as lucky as we are, up high in the sand dunes and we haven’t experienced any loss. This is a YEAR ROUND vacation rental with abundant seasonal activities to do such as taking a fall color tour starting right at home heading north up to Silver Lake Sand Dunes taking the scenic route up B-15. Drive north for many, many miles through quaint, small towns filled with shoreline views, boutique shops, and small town restaurants, bars and craft breweries. Head to one of the local wineries in the area for delicious locally made wine. There are plentiful nearby hiking trails to choose from including Clear Springs Nature Preserve down the road as well as geocaching opportunities in the area, which is exciting for the kids! There are at least two wonderful lakefront playgrounds in town where we have traditionally taken our kids to enjoy the views as well. Meinert Park is just down the road and has a beautiful sandy beach on Lake Michigan, a playground, and a creek which is a brief walk from the rental. The small, adorable towns of Montague and Whitehall are filled with numerous boutique style shops for antique hunting and clothes shopping, an ice cream soda shop, and Book Nook and Java Shop which has a delightful fireplace and live music often.Rent kayaks at Waterdog Outfitters and drop them on the water there at the shop to head up White River or out on White Lake for an incredibly peaceful paddle. Plan on seeing countless Great Blue Heron, Sandhill cranes, Kingfishers, eagles, turtles and more. Wrap it up with a yummy lunch or dinner at the Dog ‘n Suds (closed temp 2021) vintage drive-in restaurant there on the river’s edge.Visit nearby Double JJ Resort for the indoor waterpark, horseback riding on the backcountry trails, snow tubing in winter, or take a sleigh ride with gigantic and friendly draft horses. Or choose nearby Rainbow Ranch for another horseback riding experience with beautiful backcountry trails. In the winter you can try cross country skiing on the lamp-lit trail at the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex, or go ice skating on the rink there, and then enjoy hot chocolate or food by their numerous outdoor firepits or the indoor fireplace, or take a breath-taking Luge class! Also consider downhill skiing at Crystal Valley Resort about 1.5 hours north.Visit our Facebook Page called “Gone Coastal, A Vacation Rental in Montague,” for more up-to-date local happenings, local adventures, places to visit, and current photos!
