Description
An authentic, one of a kind Boston experience. Our place is perfect for a business traveler, couple, family, or group of friends looking to be in the center of Boston while also enjoying the comfort of a private, tucked away home. This gated three story 1600 sq. ft townhouse was built as a carriage house and, during the Federalist era, became the workshop of famous Boston furniture makers John and Thomas Seymour. The original beams are still in place along with the winch and pulley that were used to transport hay to the upper floors (located in the fourth floor attic). You will find exposed brick throughout the house along with custom made wall panels made of Cypress imported from New Orleans. We have done our best to maintain the historic integrity, while also making modern upgrades for comfortable living!NeighborhoodImagine walking a few feet from your Boston townhouse onto the Freedom Trail, passing original Thomas Edison lampposts along historic Salt Ln. The townhouse is tucked behind the hustle and bustle of Faneuil Hall, just off an original cobblestone alleyway. The gated entrance leads to a private courtyard shared with a neighboring restaurant. Ours is one of the only residences in this area and the only house that we know of, so it’s certainly rare! We share the street with restaurants, bars, and offices. You would be just steps from Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, City Hall Plaza, and the North End neighborhood. While the house is private and peaceful, please keep in mind it is in an urban setting and in a part of town with a lot of activity and noise!ParkingWe have a private parking spot directly outside the gate of the property that is free for you to use. This is great for folks who wish to rent a car to explore Cape Cod, Portland (ME), or other surrounding parts of New England.First floorEntrance: there is a washer dryer in a closet located off the entryway, from there you would walk a few steps up to the kitchen and living area.Kitchen: We have a small kitchen with modern appliances, including a dishwasher. There is a mini-fridge, dining table, Viking range and stove, and kitchen essentials in case you wish to skip the restaurants for a home cooked meal! For your morning coffee there is a French Press and drip machine with fresh beans.Living Room: There are two sofas, including one that is a convertible sofa that converts to a double bed. There is an optional mattress pad for a more plush sleep. For history buffs, there is an original Thomas Seymour sideboard (we ask that you please be kind to this antique – the drawers are delicate, empty, and locked and kindly ask that you do not tamper with the original skeleton key holes – thank you!) For some in-home entertainment you will have a television with streaming tv, netflix, amazon video, wifi, and a turntable if you like vinyls! The turntable has an input for iPhones and music players.Second floor: open floor layout, almost loft-like so that means no door, with one half bathroom. There is a king size bed and plenty of space. There is a full length mirror, luggage rack, and clothing rack. There is also a pair of doors to a small balcony overlooking the courtyard.Third Floor: open floor layout, no door, with the full bathroom. There is a king size bed and plenty of space. This floor also has doors that lead out to a small balcony. There is a full length mirror, closet, and shelves with some storage bins. This floor has access to the attic, but we use this for storage only.Other features: toiletries, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, makeup removing wipes, linens, towels, hair dryer, central AC, gas rangeNo pets, no parties, no smoking. Fireplaces are decorative only – please do not use.
