Description

Idyllic Post & Beam Cottage On Quiet Fresh Water LakeWelcome to the Quintessential Maine cottage. Surrounded by trees this naturally private setting is on a quiet 300-acre freshwater lake in Midcoast Maine with 200′ of waterfront at the end of a twisty dirt road. Just 10 minutes from the quaint town of Damariscotta and 30 minutes from both Rockland and Camden we have the good fortune of being close enough to tons of shopping and restaurants but tucked away in a quiet corner off the beaten path. We built this post & beam “camp” in 2014 around the idea of spending time with family and friends in an indoor/outdoor setting with a large wrap around covered porch and lots of outdoor activities such as badminton, bocci, riding the zipline with the kids, balancing on the slackline, competing in a round of horseshoes and of course lots of time by the firepit, sunbathing on the dock, swimming, floating in a tube or kayaking around the miles of coastline casting for fish and of course relaxing. There are very few motorboats on the water – you might not even see one while you’re there – most people are paddling something but there is the occasional small craft putt putting around at sunset or fishermen trolling along the edges with an electric motor.Inside the house there is an upstairs bedroom (loft style) with a built-in workspace in case you need to do a little work while you’re away. On the main floor a full kitchen, half bathroom, dining area with live edge cherry table, two sofas, decorative gas stove, and French doors that open up onto the wrap around covered porch with a swing chair, Adirondack chairs and swing sofa with a full view of the backyard, and the wooden boardwalk snaking its way down through the trees to the water’s edge, and oversized firepit.Downstairs there is a three quarters bathroom with a tiled shower stall, a bedroom with a double bed, bunkbeds, a trundle bed and a pull-out sofa for spill over guests as well as a 65” television. French doors take you outside at the ground level right into the backyard with the water directly in front of you. Turn to your left around the house and enjoy a hot soak in our cast iron clawfoot bathtub, under the stars or enjoy a post swim outdoor shower. Don’t worry, it’s “mostly” enclosed with cowboy doors but open to the sky in case you take a night soak and want to enjoy the stars.A separate bunkhouse nestled amongst the trees provides for up to 6 more people to sleep featuring a small back porch overlooking the water, sofa, mini fridge and sleeping loft (not much headroom in the loft so the shorter the better!).Hop in a kayak or canoe and paddle up the pond and explore the coves, the island at the top of the pond or paddle down the river portage over the road and meander down the waterways all the way into Pemaquid Pond next door and if you’re feeling adventurous you can continue all the way down to Biscay Pond as well and make a full day of it. Along the way you’ll pass multiple bever dams, spot bald eagles who nest in the area as well as Osprey and Loons. After a long day on the water, you can nap in the hammock down by the water, or the swing sofa on the porch then head out to the idyllic nearby towns of Damariscotta, Camden and Rockland for shopping and endless restaurant options. Hike the Camden Hills, pick up some fresh off the boat seafood and enjoy the evening view from the porch, cocktail in hand, the sound of the crickets and the Loons calling in the background.
