Description

Downtown Bar Harbor, a five minute walk to the iconic Shore Path, the harbor, and one block to Bar Island. A seven minute drive (1.7 miles) to the entrance to Cadillac Mountain and the Carriage Roads. A great home base convenient to village life. After an active day out exploring Acadia, you’ll be a short stroll to groceries, restaurants, juice bars, pubs, shopping and the free Acadia shuttle. Spacious but cozy on a rainy day. Two living rooms make this great for families. You’ll be right in town, next to Town Hall, directly across from The Black Friar Inn and Pub and one block from Hannaford, the island’s largest grocery store, as well as a short stroll to everything town has to offer- restaurants, shopping, etc – including the tidal walking path to Bar Island, which is one block away and is part of Acadia National Park. This is our home and we take great pride in its appearance and your experience. Kate’s family has lived year-round on Mount Desert Island for 8 generations and has extensive experience managing hotels and rentals on the island; we have both worked in guest services for years and promise you’ll be in good hands! As avid hikers, bicyclists, skiers and sailors we have both spent years exploring all the wonderful activities the park, the island and its nearby waters have to offer and are happy to offer tips and guidance throughout your stay. We also love to go out to eat and can offer recommendations for restaurants at every price point. The layout:There is space to park two medium size vehicles (or one large and one small) in the driveway directly in front of the house. There is a municipal lot directly across the street with free overnight parking. There are several steps to reach the large front porch, which has two Adirondack chairs for guests to enjoy. The house has two floors. Downstairs you’ll find a living room, a dining room with seating for 8, a kitchen with a gas stove, dishwasher and large fridge, a full bathroom and a bedroom with a queen size bed.Upstairs you’ll find three bedrooms (two kings and a set of bunk beds), a full bathroom and an additional living room. Some of the shuttles carry bikes, so you can put your bike on and be ferried into the heart of the park for free. There is space to launch kayaks at the entrance to Bar Island, 2/10 of a mile away (a 3-4 minute walk). (***Please attempt this ONLY if you have experience ocean kayaking, as the weather and seas in the area are unpredictable and there is a lot of ocean traffic, including cruise ships and other larger, high-speed vessels). There are plenty of outfits around that offer guided lessons, if you’re new to kayaking. We are not responsible for any irresponsible things you do during your stay.** Please note that there is an attached garage with a separate entrance that has been converted into an efficiency apartment where we stay during the summer; it shares an exterior wall but is fully separate from the main house and you will have complete privacy during your stay, but you may see us coming and going. We have two dogs; they are kept under strict control and away from visitors.*** Please note that there is currently a large construction project across the street and there may be some daytime noise.
