Scores of sun, surf, and sand-loving families, along with picnic seekers, would catch a ferry boat from across the Bay of Tampa to spend a day in paradise on Anna Maria Beach.The walk traversing the island from Bay to Gulf was short enough to carry in tow pasta tubs, jugs of nanna’s sugo (pasta sauce), blankets for relaxing, and games of bocce ball to play in the sand.
