Description
Marko Grove is a Mid-Century Modern Raised Ranch house on a large lot in Woodstock’s well-known Bearsville Flats neighborhood. The MCM houses in this area were built in the 1950s and 60s for IBM staff and their families.Marko is one of only 6 houses on a quiet cul-de-sac. You’ll see a local herd of deer, a flock of wild turkeys, and various foxes, rabbits, squirrels and beloved indoor/outdoor cats.Originally built in 1963, the property was updated in 2022 / 2023 and furnished with classic MCM furniture and decoration. The house has 1900 square feet of living space spread over two levels and a 500 square foot attached two car Garage / Studio.The main level of Mark Grove has an open plan Living Area with a fireplace with propane insert, Dining Area with a large picture window, and Kitchen with a wooden deck and a stairway to the back yard. There are 2 Bedrooms with large closets and a full Bathroom with tub shower and a window overlooking the garden.The lower level has 1 Bedroom with large closet, a full Bathroom with tub shower and a window, a Media Room with boathouse style woodworking and with sliding glass doors that lead to a bluestone patio and the back yard, an Office/Bedroom with large closet and a Utility room with pantry and storage cabinets, quartz counters and a stacked washer/dryer.The heated two car Garage/Studio has skylights, windows and separate door leading to the Utility Room and the back yard.The house sleeps 6 people with an additional 2 temporary guests in the Media Room and1 in the Office/Bedroom. There are two queen size beds and two twin beds, plus a queen size sofa bed and a twin size couch.Marko Grove is surrounded by gardens and bluestone paths. Perennial and annual flowers, bushes and mature trees make the property a private hideaway.At the front of the house is a bluestone walkway lined with solar powered lights that leads from the asphalt driveway to the front door. Flanking the front door are wooden decks with Adirondack chairs and tables.The front yard features mature trees, an oval garden with beautiful bushes, grasses and perennials, a young weeping willow on one side and a grove of Emerald Green Thuya trees on the other.The huge back yard is bordered by woods and a ravine on the back and one side. A bluestone patio with resin wicker furniture and a propane grill is accessible via the Media Room’s sliding glass door. A charming garden shed with firewood rack is in the back yard.Extending along the back of the house is a raised garden with bluestone walls with a magnificent weeping Norway spruce and other plantings and metal sculpture. A bluestone path leads from the Media Room patio to the cobble stone firepit at the center of a bluestone patio with Adirondack chairs and tables. The cascade with the meditative sounds of falling water running into a pond is made of river cobbles with seasonal water lilies and hyacinths and surrounded by bushes which complete the wonderful setting. There are lights that illuminate the back yard trees and plants at night and create a magical landscape.Marko is very close to the Bearsville Theater Complex which hosts concerts, performances, conferences and special events. It has two restaurants, a lively bar with music and an artisanal ice cream shop. Just beyond and over the Sawkill River bridge is the Cub Market and a US Post Office.Both the new Woodstock Public Library and Rick Volz field with basketball courts, baseball/softball field, pickle ball court, mini playground and public pavilion are a few blocks away.Guests at Marko Grove can enjoy all Woodstock has to offer. Shops, restaurants, art galleries, Yoga studios; concert, theater, opera venues. It’s home to Woodstock School of Art, Byrdcliffe Arts Colony, Woodstock Film Festival, and the Tibetan Buddhist Monastery. There’s hiking, swimming, golfing, and skiing. There are scenic bike routes and rail trails. Finally, there are seasonal farmers’ markets and flea markets with local finds.Woodstock is also a short drive to the creative communities of Phoenicia, Kingston and Saugerties.
