Description
If you’re looking for a unique and relaxing getaway – you’ve found it. This totally off-grid, hand-hewn log cabin was built in 1884 and was moved to its current location and rebuilt and restored in 1992, log by log. It is bordered by 27,000 acres of Pisgah National Forest, while only a mile an a half off of the interstate (I-40) and less than an hour West of Asheville.The spaceSmoky Dreams has a comfortable king size bed and an additional full size bed in the loft. It also has a small refrigerator, a propane stove, solar generator to turn on lights and charge cell phones, as well as water for washing and drinking. There is a full bathroom inside as well, complete with shower and toilet. The outdoor fire pit is just off the front porch and is perfect for making s’mores or enjoying the stars at night. **firewood is provided**We provide basic cookware (for 4 people), a tea pot, coffee press, and pots and pans. Sheets and towels are also provided, as well as toilet paper for the bathroom.We love dogs and know how hard it is to find a place that allows them to come on vacation with you! Potty-trained, well behaved dogs of any size are welcome! Dogs cannot be left in the cabin unattended. You are also responsible to pick up after your dog, specifically in common areas/foot paths.***PLEASE NOTE that while dogs are allowed, we do ask that they are not allowed on the bed. If during cleaning, we discover that this request has not been honored – an additional “Pet Cleaning Fee” will be added to your reservation***Please keep in mind that while we keep our cabin clean and spray/treat for all nature’s creatures, we are in the middle of a wooded area and, therefore, they are not 100% preventable.FIREWOOD POLICY: No charge for firewood for inside heating or the sauna. Wood for the campfire is available for $1 a piece, using the honor system. Payment details will be provided upon checkout.Guest accessGuest access:The Smoky Dreams cabin is located on un-maintained Forest Service Roads that can be steep and are unpaved. There are a few rough patches leading up to the house. All types of cars can make it up to the property, but before booking please take into consideration whether you are concerned about the abilities of your car, or are apprehensive of driving on steep mountain roads.If there is ice, snow or dangerous road conditions during the winter, we may have to close the roads to the property. Although it rarely snows here, be sure to check the weather and be prepared for a change in plans. We give full refunds if we have to cancel due to snow/ice. During the winter months we HIGHLY recommend 4×4 vehicles be driven!There is a wood-fired sauna on the property that can be used during your stay. Basic fire-starting and wood stove skills are recommended for proper usage. Max temp in the sauna is around 115-120 degrees. **firewood is provided**Smoky Dreams is off grid, but roof-top Solar Panels do collect sun for electricity that is available inside the house. There is limited cell service available, but does vary depending your provider.We do provide all bed linens, pillows, and towels during your stay.Please keep in mind that while we keep our cabin clean and spray/treat for all nature’s creatures, we are in the middle of a wooded area and, therefore, they are not 100% preventable.FIREWOOD POLICY: No charge for firewood for inside heating or the sauna. We do have power in and around the cabin, but you will need to be mindful of power usage especially when there is less sun during the winter months. The cabin does have a propane stove for cooking and a small fridge for food storage.
