Description

Our little vacation cabin is situated among the foot hills of the Appalachian chain and was built in the 1940s as a tenant farmer’s house. It stands on our 15 acre property, up the hill, hidden and behind the big old farmhouse where my husband and I live. It is a quiet and private spot. You can watch the birds and see the stars. The cabin is surrounded by pasture land and a crop of Christmas trees farther up the hill.We are situated in Ashe County in the farthest northwest corner of North Carolina, very near the Virginia state line. A fifteen minute drive will get you to Grayson Highlands State Park, and a twenty minute drive to White Top, White Top Mountain where there is access to the Appalachian Trail, the high end of the Virginia Creeper Bike Trail and Mount Rogers. The New River and New River Park is not far away. Helton Creek, popular for fishing is just across the road from us. If you enjoy old time and blue grass music there are many outside nearby music festivals during the summer months. The nearest small town is West Jefferson where visitors enjoy wandering among small shops, cafes, a cheese factory that is open to the public, a brewery and a small museum in the old court house building. There is a Saturday morning farmers market on Back Street and frequent street festivals during the summer months. Boone, Blowing Rock and Blue Ridge Parkway are about an hour drive away.
