Description
64 Main sits on a large corner lot in the Friendly Village of Harrison, Maine. The current owner grew up in Harrison. He and his family returned in 2016-17 to restore his Doctor’s former home. (Dr. Rubie Day was one of Maine’s first female Osteopaths). As a young boy walking to school, Ron, would pass Dr. Rubie’s house wondering if one day he would ever own a home like that.Coming “home” has been a romantic journey, and reminder of what makes Harrison, and this home, a special place.Harrison is in the heart of Maine’s Western Lakes region, known for it’s four season recreational opportunities and Village pace of life. Beginning in the Mid 1800’s , steamboats and later the Narrow Gauge Railroad carried city dwellers to Harrison year after year. Boys and Girls camps flourished. Today there are families who have lived in Harrison for generations , welcoming those who come to their summer/ ski homes, and short term visitors alike. From 64 you can walk across the back lawn to Crystal Lake, the town Beach, boat launch, and park. From the front door you are within blocks of the Town Library, year round Old Mill Restaurant (great food and frequent entertainment), and the Harrison General Store. Deertrees Summer Theatre, is just 1 mile “up the road”.When restoring 64 Main, the owner had his eye on creating a home that could accommodate many ages and host family reunions and small events. The owner collaborated with his wife who owned and operated an Award Winning small hotel in Portland for 16 years. They aspired that 64 Main be a place where families will come year after year, enjoying spaces to gather together as well as find moments.64 Main has 6 bedrooms. 2 Master Bedrooms with King beds and en suite baths. One Master is on the first floor with a private deck. The third floor attic space is a classic kids loft that can easily sleep 6. The large family room (once a barn) and attached screened in porch are favorites of many. The owner tried to preserve as much of the original house as possible while creating a lasting, safe, and comfortable home. The home was all new windows (30!), a new heating plant that utilizes the original radiators, all new plumbing and wiring, expanded new septic system, state of the art insulation, some air conditioning, all new appliances including a 6 burner gas stove, and a Fire Sprinkler system. There are 2 onsite paved parking areas/ of space to accommodate a boat. The home and grounds are smoke free. We love animals but do not allow pets.
