Enjoy watching the migratory birds or tailing redfish working the tidal flows along the banks of the Colorado. Once the sun sets and the green light ignites, relax on the dock and watch as baitfish swarm and the speckled trout feast.Located less than 10 minutes from Matagorda beach and less than 5 minutes from the local market and restaurants, this location is perfectly situated to host your getaway.As you enter The Reel Retreat, downstairs you’ll find a fully equipped kitchen, ready to prepare the day’s catch. There’s plenty of room for guests to sit around the granite-topped bar and enjoy their favorite beverage while telling tall tales of the day’s catch. A newly added door connects the kitchen to the outdoor breezeway, and a custom-built bar-height table large enough to host your entire party. Through the kitchen, you’ll find three cozy bedrooms, each with a comfortable king-sized (2 memory foam and one traditional) bed. USB outlets are conveniently located next to the nightstand to keep your device powered up. Two of these rooms have a walk-in closet providing plenty of storage for extended stays. A fourth bedroom has one twin bed and a set of bunks to round out the downstairs sleeping accommodations. Two bathrooms with a shower and tub provide plenty of space to clean up after a long day on the water.Upstairs you’ll find a two-level family room with the upper nook ideally suited for a kid’s daytime play zone and comfy sleeping accommodations for when they run out of gas. They’ll have access to a full daybed with a twin slide out, a second full-sized bed, and the couch potato – a giant bean bag where kiddos love to sleep in late. The lower level of this great room provides a panoramic view of the river and plenty of space to lounge around, read your latest book, or play a game of pool on the antique pool table. This room also has a 65″ smart TV to stream your favorite shows or watch the game. The deck outside provides a beautiful vantage point to sip your morning coffee while watching the boats head out or host an evening happy hour while gazing at the sunset over the banks of the river.Outside there is a spacious covered breezeway and grassy lawn to escape when needed. Take advantage of the fire pit and bring along some wood to enjoy roasted marshmallows and smores. The dock alongside the river provides excellent fishing for speckled trout, redfish, flounder, and black drum. The deepwater along this stretch is an ideal spot to toss out a crab trap and keep the kiddos entertained for hours. Avoid the hassles of daily runs for ice, as you’ll have access to a commercial ice maker providing plenty ice to keep your catches and beverages cold. If your plans include fishing with one of Matagorda’s excellent guide services, ask about them picking you up dockside and skip the traffic at the marina. If you’re bringing your own boat, there’s plenty of room to park out front with security lighting. The Riverbend boat ramp and Wayne’s bait stand (newly reopened) is located just a few hundred yards downriver and provides quick and easy access to the water.River Bend drive is a lazy street where children commonly play and ride their bikes.
