Brick row houses, some brightly painted or featuring quirky murals, are home to independent bookstores, artisan cafes, vintage clothing shops and yoga studios.Adams Morgan has great restaurants, music venues, and dining experiences. Tail Up Goat right off of Calvert Street on Adams Mill Road is a delicious modern Mediterranean-inspired neighborhood restaurant with creative and memorable cocktails (and a Michelin Star). Johnny’s Half Shelf was a Capitol Hill classic that recently moved onto Columbia Road. My favorite restaurant is Mintwood Place, also on Columbia Road. It has a fresh farmhouse/French/American menu with a burger and brownie sundae that can’t be beat. Their weekday Happy Hour is fantastic. In the summer, the roof deck at Perry’s or Jack Rose (further down 18th Street) are great spots too. No matter what you like to eat Adams Morgan has it.If you are looking for a chill coffee house, Tryst is your place. Lots of grad students and people working remotely hang out and enjoy the wi-fi and couches. Rise Bakery is a morning go-to for Gluten-Free bagel, croissants, and treats that won’t make you miss the gluten. There is also a Starbucks at the corner of 18th and Columbia if that’s your addiction.Adams Morgan’s reputation a decade ago for mostly for its nightlife but it is more family-friendly than many realize. A fabulous park is at the top of the street with all new playground equipment. In the summer the park is full with picnickers hanging out and enjoying the day.https://www.airbnb.com/locations/washington-dc/adams-morganGetting Around:Closest METRO station: Woodley Park / Adams Morgan station on The Red LineClosest bus stops: Calvert & Biltmore (L2, 96, and more). Two have kid-friendly playgrounds: Walter Pierce park (2630 Adams Mill Rd, NW) and Kalorama park (1865 Kalorama Rd. NW)Entrance to Rock Creek is across the Calvert Street bridge–great for walking and bike riding. Or if you are adventurous you can find trail entrances in the park at the ned of Allen Place. You can walk to the “back” entrance to the National Zoo by walking through Walter Pierce Park and continuing along Adams Mill Road.A great stroll is to take Kalorama Road and cross Connecticut Avenue. The neighborhood there is filled with embassies, ambassadors’ residences (including the iconic French Ambassadors residence at 2221 Kalorama Rd NW) and the Obamas’ home.Restaurants are too numerous to name–there are dozens of places in Adams Morgan alone, with so many nation. We love TailUp Goat, Los Companeros, Mintwood, and Lapis. Rise Bakery has fantastic gluten-free options and Amsterdam Falafel is the best in town (and inexpensive). The Green Zone is great for a drink and Pitchers is a fun gay bar, with A League of Her Own (lesbian bar downstairs).
