This area is a nature lover’s dream. The National Forest, Pere Marquette River and nearby beaches of Lake Michigan combine to offer unlimited recreational possibilities. The Manistee National Forest offers thousands of acres of land for hiking, snowmobiling, hunting, dirt biking and ATV trails. It is the only national forest with an ATV trail system in western Lower Michigan, and connects with an additional 180 miles of “off road vehicle” trails east of Highway 37. Over thirty lakes and three rivers in the area offer salmon, steelhead, rainbow and brown trout fishing. Ludington State Park is located just a short drive from Walhalla and is called “Queen of Michigan’s Parks.” It features sand dunes and virgin forests, miles of sandy beach, 14 miles of hiking and biking trails and three campgrounds. Fishing charters are also available in Ludington, as well as canoe and kayak rentals, watercraft and boat rentals – even dune buggy rides. Other points of interest include the Big Sable Point Lighthouse and Historic White Pine Village, which is a collection of 21 buildings that depict small-town life in Michigan during the late 1800s and beyond. Walhalla Village is a great place to escape city life and “get away from it all”
