Description
Bridge House is a true gem of mid-century modern styling. Furnished with iconic pieces by Charles Eames, Jens Risom, Paul McCobb, & George Nelson-this recently remodeled atomic ranch has clean lines, and an open floor plan. The updated kitchen, bath and exterior deck were designed by award-winning architect Barry Price, and bring the house firmly into present day, without sacrificing the cool original mid-century details. The rosewood wall paneling, oak parquet floors, ultra-hip light valances, and floor to ceiling windows are all still there – but with energy efficient glass and swanky new European sliders. Load the iPod with Frank, Dean, and Sammy, crush some ice for the martinis, kick back and relax.Accessible only by private bridge, Bridge House is perched above the waters of Little Beaver Kill Stream which will gently wake you in the morning and lull you to sleep at night with its soothing murmur. The floor to ceiling windows in the living room bring the landscape indoors, where the play of light, woods and water combine so the house seems to ride along the currents of the stream. In summer, take advantage of the cantilevered deck for an above-the-stream dinner. In winter, snuggle in comfy chairs by the generous stone fireplace while the snow settles on rocks and boulders below. In spring ferns and mosses surrounding the house unfurl their shoots, creating a blanket of variegated green. In autumn, crunch your way through drifts of ochre, persimmon and henna leaves. There will be a lot of them, because Bridge House is surrounded by hundreds of acres of forever-wild lands. Want to take a hike? Just step out the back door. Don’t be surprised if you see deer, raccoons, rabbits, groundhogs, and birds-a-plenty! Heron, ducks, kestrels all are frequent visitors to the waters’ edge.Private, but not remote, Bridge House is short drive from Woodstock’s center and a shorter drive still from Phoenicia, recently named one of the 10 best small towns in America. It is also within walking distance of the NYC bus line, so you don’t have to have a car. Tell the driver to drop you off at Grogkill Road.
