The island, once known as a favorite for hunting migratory birds, is now a part of the Audubon Society’s Wellfleet Bay Sanctuary. Crossing the bridge to the island is an experience all in itself. The beautiful marshland stretches out before you, the seagulls drop clam shells from the sky in hopes of breaking them open on the pavement, the occasional kayaker slipping through the reeds – it all evokes a sense of peace and calmness. Lieutenant’s Lodge sits on a bluff overlooking the bay. Amazing nightly sunsets from your porch or just steps away to the sandy beach below. The house itself is a rustic (it was a hunting lodge in the 30’s!) 4 bedroom, 1.5 bath (with an outdoor shower as well). The living room, dining room, full kitchen, master bedroom, master bathroom, and a large sun porch with two additional single day beds (aka the sleeping porch) are located on the first floor. Up the antique stairs you will find the king bedroom overlooking the water, a half bath, and two more bedrooms toward the back of the house, both containing a queen bed in each. Outside is a huge wrap around porch with deck furniture, a dining table, grill, and all just 100 feet from your stairs to the beach. We also have bikes for your use and kayaks available as well. You can’t get a more classic Cape Cod beach vacation than this.- 1 King, 3 Queen beds, 2 single beds (day beds on open porch)- Soft, beautiful linens, Turkish towels, and beach towels are provided- Outside shower, 1.5 baths inside- Dog Friendly with fee of $100 (limit 1 dog – must be over 1 year old). Only a (one, uno, un, ichi, eguh, isa, otu, een, imwe, 1) dog that says woof.- Wraparound porch with new grill, dining table, and lounge furniture- Plenty of bikes and kayaks available- Note *there is no wifi but you can use your phone to create a hotspot if you need to work on a laptop or tablet*- House is located on the bluff above the water with your own path to the stairs down to the beach below – AMAZINGviews- Nightly minimum stays range from 2 to 7 nights (July/August)- Washer & Dryer- There is a mini-split unit with AC/Heat on the first floor (living room) for those extremely hot days, however, being on the water there is a constant ocean breeze with little need for ac.- Ceiling fans in the upstairs bedrooms and the king bedroom (oceanside) has a window unit ac.The island is accessed by a bridge and the road may become covered in water if the tide exceeds 10 feet. You will see island residents and guests pull over to the side of the road waiting for the tide to recede sometimes. Depending on how high the tide is, it may only be 30 minutes or so before the road is tide-free (again, it depends on the tide). For example:First high tide is at 2:47 am and is 10.73 ft/Second high tide is at 3:05 pm and is 10.95 ftResidents and guests with plans at 3:00 pm would simply arrive or leave between 2:00/2:30. If they miss the window, they simply wait 30/45 minutes until the tide recedes off the road. It isn’t a big deal and a part of island life.
